Personal development is focused on deeper self-awareness, uncovering one’s true nature, authenticity, and needs, and implementing desired changes in personal life. Living with a sense of understanding, fulfillment, purpose, and prosperity is an art that needs to be learned. We learn it by living, but if we wish to progress more quickly, there is no choice but to start working on it systematically.
We must start with ourselves, get to know ourselves better, as this is the foundation for all our understanding, decisions made, and the direction we take. It is not just a life option but a necessity – the very foundation for a more conscious and higher-quality life that we desire.
Society teaches us knowledge, skills, habits, and rules so that we can survive and thrive in it, but that is something different. They can be a means, but not the foundation that brings deeper understanding and direction to fulfill and develop our potential.
In personal development, we first create a work plan that includes thoughts and feelings related to needs, problems, desires, and visions of what the desired changes and new life should look like. Since most of us don’t know our inner, authentic “Self”, this set of thoughts and feelings serves as a working plan, where our inner authentic needs meet with the needs that do not belong to us and stem from other sources, such as the expectations of others, fears, self-image, and other acquired notions.
In the second phase, we focus on revealing our true nature, touching the inner authentic “Self” hidden beneath layers of ideas, opinions, and self-evaluation, so that you can understand your true needs. Often, we think we want or need something, but upon deeper examination, we may see that the need comes from elsewhere and is not our own. Conversely, people are often surprised by what they discover within themselves as their authentic face and need. Here, we work both with conversation and, primarily, therapeutic techniques to delve deeper than our own beliefs and thoughts; we can thus uncover aspects of our natural “Self”. Meeting your authentic “Self” is the most beautiful thing that can happen to you in life. That is certainly good news.
Once we understand ourselves sufficiently, we revisit the work plan and adjust it to match our true inner needs. This may include anything from very personal goals to specific professional goals or a combination of both. At the same time, we assign a time frame to each goal, if appropriate.
In the next phase, it is necessary to create conditions for our new plan to be feasible. We need to remove internal and external blockages and limitations that prevent us from achieving it. This may include low self-esteem, negative thought patterns and beliefs, or practical decisions that need to be made in life.
It may turn out that it would be advisable to go even deeper and devote time to this. To grasp your potential, we need to understand ourselves sufficiently and create the conditions for realization, so that we are able to direct and maintain our energy and effort in the right direction. There may be many disruptive aspects that can hinder us in this, and if we do not eliminate them, it will be three steps forward and three steps back. Our energy will be scattered into many conflicting thought patterns, feelings, and activities.
Other important aspects, such as motivation and passion for the cause, are a natural outcome. Life will bring new challenges, but the good news is that when you know that it truly belongs to you, then you always have the necessary strength to overcome them because the direction is clear, you understand, and you are determined.
